Originally started in London by a team of electrical engineers, the Rwanda subsidiary now employs 25+ people and has over 2,000 customers, with plans to grow very quickly. MeshPower is a fast-moving, rapidly changing company, characterised by a high degree of personal responsibility, quick decision-making and a dynamic and innovative business environment.

We are looking for an experienced and driven individual to lead our growing team in Rwanda. The Country Director will be responsible for MeshPower in Rwanda, reporting directly to the CEO in London. S/he will lead the teams covering sales & marketing, field operations, technical & maintenance, customer service, finance & administration and production & repairs. Most importantly, they will be hiring to grow these teams substantially.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of MP Rwanda business targets, notably annual revenue and sales targets, reporting these to the board
  • Manage MP Rwanda staff, working with the leadership team to create, manage and monitor team structures as well overseeing their training and continuous workplace learning
  • Oversee the development of regional offices in Rwanda and manage the logistics, staffing and communications policies to make these work effectively
  • Head external relations in Rwanda, working with all stakeholder groups, notably government, NGOs, the investor community and other industry players
  • Work with senior management team in London, providing regular feedback and interaction and helping to co-ordinate the efforts of the different offices
  • Co-ordinate with the head office in London for all technical, commercial, production and legal assistance.
  • Constantly investigate new business opportunities and new products, working with the technical and product team to make sure MeshPower’s offering is the best in the market
  • Oversee and be responsible for MP Rwanda’s finances; the preparation and delivery of accounts, budgets and financial reports

Required skills

  • Five or more years’ experience with proven success in a similar role in Rwanda, or comparable African market
  • Entrepreneurial and excited about the opportunity to creatively build a dynamic, non-traditional business in a nascent industry
  • Passionate about the social impact that MeshPower delivers, bringing innovative, clean, renewable and affordable electricity to rural African markets
  • Comfortable working independently and remotely in a lean environment
  • Likes getting hands dirty trying work out to how to grow a high-potential business
  • A natural people-person, that has experience and a track record leading others
  • Willing to spend up to 40% of his/her time in the field interacting with staff, agents and customers
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English and Kinyarwanda
  • High competency with word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • University graduate, preferably with a business, finance or accounting degree.
  • Experience implementing and managing projects, especially ones with logistical challenges.

We are currently looking for an experienced and driven electrical engineer to join our technical development team full time in London. The successful candidate will work alongside our hardware and software engineers and will be sited at our main office within the Imperial College Incubator in South Kensington.  A temporary project based relocation to the Rwanda Field Office may be required.

 

Responsibilities

As an electronics and hardware engineer, you will lead the product development for the next generation of solar powered PAYG electricity system. This job will include:

  • Circuit design and simulation
  • Specify, write and test firmware
  • Cost optimization on circuit design and component selection
  • Design, layout, build and test hardware units
  • Prepare designs for mass manufacturing
  • Define and implement production and in field hardware test process
  • Component sourcing and BoM generation
  • Documentation of specifications and designs

 

Required Qualifications

  • A degree or other qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Experience in analogue/digital circuit design
  • Experience in layout and assembly of moderate to complex printed circuit boards
  • Experience in the use of Altium (or other professional software) for schematic entry and board layout
  • Familiarity/Experience in switch-mode power electronics design and layout
  • Some experience in the use of C/C++ and embedded software

 

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Experience with IoT and low power circuit design
  • Knowledge on lithium ion or lead acid battery management
  • Experience with the ST Microelectronics STM32F4 chipset
  • Knowledge on programming in Python, Go and C++
  • Experience in using Linux as a primary development platform

We are currently looking for an experienced and driven individual to manage and scale up our production pipeline. The successful candidate will manage the electronics production of MeshPower’s proprietary circuit boards used to build solar powered electricity grids. The production manager will be responsible for scheduling and managing the complete production pipeline to meet set production targets. The majority of the time the project specialist will be working from MeshPower’s production facility in London. On a temporary basis trips to the Rwanda field office as well as to production partner sites in Europe and Asia may be required.

 

Responsibilities

As the production manager you are responsible to schedule and manage the complete production pipeline.

  • Production planning and scheduling
  • Material purchasing incl. price negotiations with suppliers
  • Manage production outsourcing incl. logistics
  • Supervise and instruct solder technicians and the Rwandan production team
  • Operate pick and place machine, circuit oven, soldering station and test rigs
  • Manufacture printed circuit boards including surface mount and through hole components
  • Manage stock levels and deliverables at multiple production offices
  • Implement quality assurance procedure
  • Implement board and final product test processes
  • Report to management

 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience or great interest in electronics production
  • Management experience
  • Experience in soldering techniques incl. experience hand soldering LQFP144 and MSOP SMDs
  • Experience in electronics fault isolation and test

 

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Degree or qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

As software engineer, you will contribute to a variety of Python/C++/Go software projects related to MeshPower’s nanogrid product.

  • Build up our Web (Go, Python) and Embedded (C++) software stacks
  • Develop key features on the data analysis and accounting software
  • Contribute to MeshPower’s nanogrid operating system (Linux, Python)
  • Embedded firmware development on the STM32F4 chipset (C++)

 

Required Qualifications

  • A degree or other qualification in Computer Science
  • Experience in designing practical software applications
  • Proficient in Python, Go and C++
  • Familiarity with services like Google AppEngine, web frameworks and object data stores
  • Experience in using Linux as a primary development platform and knowledge of low level UNIX file I/O and networking interfaces
  • Experience with HTML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Some experience in the use of embedded software toolchains
  • An interest in electronics and/or embedded systems would be a distinctive quality
